How to use Linked In when building your HomeBased Business

Here is an excellent article on Linked In from an expert, Leslie Truex!

Viewed mostly as a social network for job seekers, LinkedIn is ideal for home business owners as well. But many home-based entrepreneurs and freelancers don't use or maximize LinkedIn and all it's great features. With over 250 million users, LinkedIn is a must for home business owners.  Here are tips to maximize LinkedIn to build your business.
1) Complete your personal profile. On Linkedin, the power is the quality of connections, not the quantity. Incomplete profiles, especially those without pictures are viewed as unprofessional. LinkedIn walks you through the process of adding information in all the important areas making it easy to create a complete profile. Use a professional or high quality photo, as people are less likely to connect if there is no picture of you. Use keywords and content that will attract your target market in your summary, experience and other sections of the LinkedIn profile. Request a personalized URL that uses your name. 2) Create a company page.  This is slightly different than a profile, but it's a great way to focus on your company and have people "follow" it. Like a profile, you want to complete all the information, including a logo and keyword targeted content about your business.
3) Ask for recommendations. Testimonials can significantly improve your business growth. They instill confidence in prospective clients and customers making them more willing to hire or buy from you. While you can get testimonials for your website, also ask for recommendations from clients or customers at LinkedIn.
4) Share business news. Are you launching a new product or service? Will you be hosting an event? People like to work with businesses they feel connected to, and one way to help them feel connected is by sharing news and inside information.
5) Be active. Social media can be overwhelming. There are so many sites you can join, all of which require active participation. In many cases, some social media profiles end up not getting the attention they deserve. But a dormant social media page is worse than no social media page at all. Tools such as Hootsuite can help you post blog or other content to LinkedIn as well as other social media sites. However, LinkedIn is much different that other networks. You don't post what you had for breakfast (unless it was with a powerhouse like Bill Gates) or cat pictures. LinkedIn is a professional network. Post news and information about your business and industry trends.
6) Engage with others. Too many people are self-centered with their social media forgetting the part that it's supposed to be social. Social media works, but only if done right. Along with posting your own content, you need to reach out and engage with others. Check your news feed and like or comment on what your connections are posting. Participate in groups where you can connect with potential customers or others who can help you make good connections. Recommend businesses that you've worked with and can say positive things about. Endorse your connections for their talents. The more you reach out and help others, the more they'll reach out and help you.
7) Assess results. I know business professionals who created a website and did social media, but ultimately they gave up because they said it didn't work. But social media does work. If it's not working for you, then you're not doing it right. Tracking what's going on with your LinkedIn profile will give clues as to what you need to do. Are people being able to find you? If not, maybe you need to relook at the keywords you're using and better optimize your profile. Are people liking or commenting on your posts? If not, you need to create more engaging posts. You can do that by asking questions or for feedback. For example, don't just share a link to your most recent blog post. Instead, share the link and ask people to respond. Finally, are you getting good quality connections? If not, improve your engagement and seek out better people.

Online Avon Marketing!

Here is another awesome representative to follow and heed her advice when building an online Avon business!

A district manager asked me to share some of my tips for Avon online marketing. Here is what I came up with:
Online Marketing Tips for Avon Reps:
1) Turn on your automated email program. Who cares if Avon sends out a lot of emails? Would you rather have online sales or worry about how many emails your customers are getting? Your customers can unsubscribe if they want. Don't miss out on sales because of fear.
2) Subscribe to your own email list so you know what your customers are getting from Avon. Look me up on YouTube...I have a couple of videos that show you how to increase online sales. http://www.youtube.com/user/avonrepemily/videos
3) Put labels on the front of your Avon catalogs with a free shipping or coupon code to encourage online shopping.
4) Mail out catalogs to your eCustomers. I send out the catalog to anyone who has placed an order in the past month. If you don't want to mail them yourself, use Campaign Mailer or Consultant Depot. www.campaignmailer.net or www.consultantdepot.com
5) Write blog posts and use social media to promote sales, free shipping offers, coupon codes, new products, new campaigns, and the Avon opportunity.
6) Follow Makeup Marketing Online on Facebook for more ideas! https://www.facebook.com/MakeupMarketingOnline and https://www.facebook.com/groups/makeup.marketing.online

Avon Products-Selling Avon at every age!

I had to share this blog post about senior citizens having their own Avon businesses by Lynn Bledsoe!

I just had the most AMAZING impacting appointment with a brand new leader. One of our teammates here in San Antonio who's in her 60's & who I've been trying to get out to Avon events with us just signed up her sister who'll be her first recruit. Now this wasn't the average appointment, the reason why her sister was so eager to sign up was because she's in her 70's and didn't want to have to get a full time job.
The reason why she wasn't afraid to start AVON in her 70's was because she knew she wasn't going to have a problem sharing her new business because in her words "Who hasn't heard of AVON?"
One thing we've always said about Avon is how POWERFUL the branding is, she knows by her sharing her new business venture her success rate is going to be that much higher because EVERYONE has already heard of AVON so there's nothing to explain, she's determined to make $500 every 2 weeks which is her first goal = GOTTA LOVE OUR BRANDING!!!
The reason why my husband and I came to Avon in 2008 was because of that same reason, the branding of this company is too powerful to not take advantage.

Having your own  Avon business at any age is an easy work at home business.  And profitable!

Work from Home! What three things are you doing today to move your business forward?

Just had a representative tell me she had a busy schedule with her children and family obligations. She  asked for advice and I issued her the challenge Rose LaFata issued me all those years ago:
What three things are you doing today to move your business forward:
1) Send 3 emails a day to prospective customers
2) Call 3 people a day to offer your business opportunity
3) Drop 3 brochures/pamphlets off somewhere today offering the features/benefits of your business both buying and selling (or send 3 brochures/flyers/pamphlets or letters to targeted prospects).
That's it.
Every day.
7 days a week
At the end of the month you will have:
1) Sent 90 emails
2) Offered your business opportunity to 90 people
3) Dropped off 90 brochures/pamphlets (or mailed 90 brochures/pamplets/flyers to targeted prospects)
In less than an hour a day.
In three months you will have:
1) Sent 270 emails
2) Offered your business opportunity to 270 people
3) Dropped off 270 brochures and pamphlets (or mail 3 flyers / pamphlet to targeted prospects)
Everyone can do this.  Every day no matter how busy you are.
AND your business will be booming in 3 months.

Why I Love Working From Home-Reason #4 Commissions

Avon is generous.  From the $15 start up fee, free websites, the ability to sell person to person and online coast to coast, to their commission structure.

I have been blessed every one of my fifteen years with Avon to have been in President's Club where my sales totaled over $10,100 a year and I have a fixed commission of 40% to 50% which is fantastic compared with many other direct selling companies.

All our award winning products are guaranteed and can be returned without question!

I'm never "stuck" with a product, whatever the reason.

My commissions have made my life easier!  I'm so grateful to be a part of Avon!

Texting - Business Etiquette

Here is an excellent article by Lynn Huber regarding texting businesses!

8 Suggestions for Texting Anyone You Do Business With

Texting Etiquette for BusinessTexting is a great tool for both business and personal use for many reasons.  It is quick, easy, and less disruptive than a phone call.

But if you’re not careful, it can also be disrespectful and unprofessional in the business world.

What’s considered acceptable when texting friends is very different than what is acceptable when texting business contacts.

Here are some tips that are especially important while texting for your business:

1.  Before texting a customer or business partner, ask permission.  Make sure they are OK with it.  Not everybody is texting yet, or comfortable with it.

2.  Be careful about being totally focused on your phone while walking down the hall.  People may be hesitant to approach you because they don’t want to interrupt.

3.  Use proper grammar and punctuation, especially for business messages.  It is still important to be professional.

4.  Identify yourself in your text, especially if you aren’t positive that the other person has your cellphone in their contact list.

5.  Turn off audible text alerts, especially if you’re in a meeting.  If you’re expecting something important, switch your phone to vibrate and put it in your pocket.

6.  While it’s OK to confirm a meeting by text, it’s not a good idea to change one this way.  Not everyone is glued to their phones all the time and may not receive your message in time.

7.  Be respectful of other’s schedules.  Just because you’re awake don’t send someone a text in the middle of the night.  They might have their phone near their bed and you could wake them.

8.  Be sure to end your conversations.  Don’t leave the other person hanging, wondering if you’re going to answer.

For over forty years in my career in Corporate America, my life was scheduled: I had to be in the office at 8:00 AM and my lunch hours rarely varied.  I HAD to return on time within the hour because others were waiting for me to take their lunch hour.  I had to leave at 5:30 PM to fight the rush hour traffic from downtown Detroit.  Though I've always felt blessed I had been steadily employed for over forty years, I love working from home where I can sleep through rush hour traffic, schedule my lunch when want, make my appointments at my leisure, and I make the decision as to when I end my day!

Top Ten Reasons I love Working from Home! #1 I'm MY Own Boss

I've been working my Avon business for over four years now.  Prior to that I was employed for over forty years in the "traditional" work force at a Fortune 500 Company.

Through the years I've had good bosses and some not so good.  Actually horrid bosses to the point, though I was grateful to have a job,  I dreaded getting up and going to work.

I hated the often long commute during inclement weather (and in Michigan we have dreadful winters).

There hasn't been one day since I've worked my  Avon business full time, that I haven't enjoyed it!

Senior Executive Unit Leader and Inner Circle, from Sterling Heights, Michigan, with Angie Rossi, Group Vice President, North America Sales, and her husband, Allen Wrubel
"The beauty of selling Avon is that it's allowed me to grow my business without taking away from my personal and family life. I cannot put into words how much this award has touched me and my Downline."

Success in Leadership goes hand in hand with success in Sales. That's why I emphasize my philosophy of the Ds: With desire, drive, determination and diligence, your destiny ends up being dollars!

The key to selling is to know your product. When you use and wear products yourself, you will sell them! Customers pick up on your personal knowledge and can trust your recommendations. The best way to sell Avon fashion and jewelry is to wear it. You become an instant walking advertisement, which is such a quick and easy way to promote. With every new skin care or fragrance launch, I order the products and give a full-size to my best Customers. The result? Many times, they come back for more! When you invest in your business, you often get something back. Try it yourself when delivering orders– give Customers a free product, minis or samples. Give daily-needs items as gifts, since those are the kinds of products they can reorder. Plus, when they're using those products every day, it's a constant reminder of Avon!
Constant communication is key to recruiting and retaining new and existing talent. I always let people know I sell Avon. From fund-raisers to various school and sporting events, my team and I spread the word about Avon. When people see how much I enjoy what I'm doing and learn about my success, it inspires them to sign up. Everywhere you go, and with everyone you come in contact with, talk AVON!

Avon-How to sell fragrances online!

 Rare Gold!  Elegant and Sensual
Exude mystery with this warm, opulent floral of Ylang-ylang and Bergamot, surrounding a lush heart of Jasmine and Gardenia entwined with precious woods, luxuriant Musk, Amber and Vanilla. 1.7 fl. oz.

SCENT SENSE: this is a floral scent. Beautiful, feminine scent that evokes flowers.

The key to running an effective online store is digging deep into your audience’s needs and motivations. It’ll take a bit of work to get there, though. Luckily, the web offers a variety of resources for researching your audience.
Some good places to start include forum sites, online communities, lifestyle magazines and social networks. Once you’ve collected enough information, you can start constructing profiles of your typical customers. Audience research is a crucial part of learning how to sell fragrances online.

2. Identify keywords that interest your market.

To gather an audience from search engines, you’ll want to identify keywords and phrases that customers might use to find you. Some examples might be “Christian Dior cologne,” “Calvin Klein perfume” and “fragrances for men.” Do some research using Google Analytics or another service to find out which keywords get the most traffic.
Keyword research is a critical part of your SEO strategy. You’ll want to build content and meta-content around these keywords to bump your site up in the search rankings. SEO is another step on the road to learning how to sell fragrances online.

3. Create relationships with manufacturers.  We have award winning Avon products!

Buying wholesale is the best way to turn a profit when you sell direct to the consumer. Wholesale Central, Name Brands Perfume and Fragrance Wholesale are all good places to start your quest to find the right distribution partner.
Contact the wholesalers directly to get pricing quotes. Compare wholesale prices to current market prices and calculate your profit per sale. Everything should come up roses. If it doesn’t, you may want to look into other options for distributors.

4. Choose the right shopping cart software.  We have this feature with our online webstore!

Of course, an online store is only as strong as the software that powers it. As you learn how to sell fragrances online, you’ll understand that your software platform is one of the most important parts of the experience.
For instance, you’ll want to get set up with a shopping cart software that empowers you with easy social sharing. Email marketing will be a crucial part of promotion; your software should have simple ways to automate your email lists.  We have this feature, too, with Avon!

Campaign 7 ended the selling year last week!

We are now starting a new Avon year!

As you know, this selling year will be shorter due to the change that Avon has made to end the selling cycle the last week of December 2014!

I personally want to thank all my valued customers, friends, manager, representatives, subsellers and Annette Desmarais my awesome helper, for a wonderful Avon year.  At the last moment, I made President's Club for the 14th straight year!

Thank you all so very much!

As we start the new year, what are you goals? Dreams? Plans?

How do you plan to achieve those goals?

How much do you want to earn with your Avon business?

Are you using Social Media to advertise your business?  If so, which ones?  Pinterest? Facebook? Twitter?  Digg?

Have you considered joining the Avon leadership program!

More to follow about leadership in upcoming posts!  But I can tell you there have been awesome changes to make it more lucrative!

Once again, Happy Avon New Year!

Work from Home Avon

Excellent article by Melody Schafer, national recruiter for Avon

If you have been looking for a work at home business opportunity, you may want to look for an opportunity where you can work online, with little start-up cost, no inventory, free online training, free web store for your customers, and whatever else may be on your list of important credentials to meet your needs in finding that perfect fit for you and your family.
The economy has been in the dumps for a few years now, good paying jobs are difficult or impossible to find and working for someone else, definitely is not the answer in reaching our dreams, especially without jeopardizing the time we want to have, so we can spend more time with our families.
Being one's own boss has more to do with freedom than it has to do with money. Being your own boss allows you to spend more time with your family, allows you to go places and do things you normally couldn't if you were checking in and out of a 9-5 job.
Set your own schedule so you can work as little or as much as you want, and WHEN you want. You are your own boss, so how much you make will be up to you. Do you want a raise? Give yourself a raise by doing the things that need to be done to grow your business?
Think you are too busy to have your own business? Think again. Many work at home businesses can be worked COMPLETELY online, so all you have to do is get your customers to your website that may be provided to you, or one that you create yourself. Many businesses, such as direct sales companies or affiliate programs are fairly simple to do online.  All you have to do is get customers to your web store and the company handles the payments, orders and shipping. All you have to do is collect your paycheck or direct deposit to your bank account.
There are other options, such as owning your own web store on e-bay, Amazon, Etsy, Artfire and so many other well known sites where you can post items that you either make or are re-selling. With this type of business you either can carry the inventory in your own home and ship to customers OR use dropshipping, if it is available, for the product you sell.

I will be writing future articles breaking down the pros and cons of using dropshippers versus carrying inventory and shipping items yourself, versus finding a company, such as a direct sales organization to work with, and other choices you may have.
Remember, being your own boss, is about freedom. With freedom comes great responsibility. You must use your time wisely and to also remember working from home is not a "get rich scheme". This will take time and lots of patience. You will have failures along with success in your venture. If you want to succeed, the one thing you should remember is: "NEVER GIVE UP".

A stay at home mom of 2 homeschooled teenagers and married over 19 years, Melody Schafer, also known as MelodyAtHome across the Internet, has almost 30 years of business experience, both online and off. Her goal is to help others in finding the freedom that they want and deserve by being their own boss and owning a business they can love. Post and find business opportunities on her new message board http://www.WorkAtHomeInfo.US

Selling Avon Online-Internet Marketing

The internet is here to stay.  Millions of people shop online daily to purchase their products.
Why not get a piece of that business?

One way to market your Avon business is via a blog.   Here is an excellent article by a guru Leslie Truex, the work at home expert:

Go Viral! Tips to Creating Content People Share

Go Viral photo from ShutterstockWord-of-mouth, buzz, referral, viral marketing, whatever you call it, there’s no doubt that people are more likely to take a look at something suggested by a friend. The challenge is to create content that people want to share. There is a bit of stardust involved when it comes to having something that catches fire versus falling flat, but there are strategies you can use to improve your odds of creating viral content.
Give it away: People like free stuff and they’ll share cool free stuff with others.
Tap into emotions: The two types of content I see shared most on my social media feeds are funny and heart-touching material. But those aren’t the only emotions you can evoke. Others include a sense of justice, inspiration, superiority and anger. Just be cognizant of the emotion you want people to feel. In 2008,  Motrin ran a viral campaign designed to empathize with moms, but ended up angering them. Yes, the video was shared, but not in a positive way.
Enhance lives: I enjoy looking at funny and inspirational content, but I’m more likely to share items that help people, such as tax tips, a billion uses for baking soda or how to power a laptop using a potato.
Grab attention: Graphics and video tend to be shared more than text, but that’s not to say text (i.e. articles and Tweets) don’t get shared. The key to getting shared is in getting and keeping attention, whether that’s through a picture, video or headline.
Make It Easy to Share: There is a trend towards forcing people to “Like” content before they can see it. I can see the reasoning behind this, but restricting access to shared content is going to annoy people. How can I “Like” something I’ve never seen? If I “Like” it, but end up not liking it, I have to go through the hassle of unlikely. Many people, myself included, don’t bother. Remember, the goal of viral marketing is to get people talking about you in a way that expands your reach. Make your content easy to share by including share options (i.e. Tweet, Like, Pin), and the ability to embed or download the content, without having to “Like,” register, or jump through hoops to see it.
Don’t advertise: This is another challenge of viral marketing. You want people not just to share, but to connect your name to the content as a way of promoting your business. How many commercials have you seen and enjoyed, but can’t recall the company’s advertising? At the same time, people don’t want to be sold to. The best way to engage an audience is to tell a story and use the strategies above, without pitching your business. A great example of this is Dove’s Beauty Sketches, in which Dove, as it has done in years past, sought to help women of all-sizes and shapes feel beautiful, without promoting a single product.
